Another beautiful day on the levees. This canal eventually leads to the Miami River about 25 miles away. More pics to follow.

Baby Snapping Turtle

Very cool! This is the 1st time I've seen one this young. They're pretty rare out here, so I was lucky to see this one crossing L33.

Eventually, the Miami Canal extends further out into the vast Everglades. However, no longer is it reachable by land, so farewell from here.

Not very often that the waters are so calm, but this day in general made for some amazing photo moments.

The canal that traverses runs 25 miles southwesterly, all the way to Tamiami Trail. The levee that runs parallel is 67A, a serious bruiser!

This is a view from the northwestern tip of the Miami Canal, which eventually leads into the Miami River. The next picture shows what's behind me.

On a clear day, looking in the direction of the canal, you can see downtown Miami, about 25 miles away. You can see it if you zoom in to the picture.

Mack's Fishing Camp

This is a piece of Old Florida. They've been around since the 30s!! An over night stay here also gets you a canoe for the entire day. They're on the Miami Canal which runs along one of my favorite levees. You're guaranteed to see a bunch of wildlife and most likely a gator or 2 ..or 3 or 4...
